Shiro Kamo AS Kurouchi
Kamo Shiro san is a blacksmith working out of Takefu Knife Village in Echizen, Japan. He is one of the founding members of TKV and currently acts as president. His contributions to the knife making community have been recognized by the gov't of Japan with the designation "traditional craftsman".
This affordable line of knives is forged with an aogami super cutting edge between 2 layers of soft iron in a technique called san mai, which when translated means 3 layers sandwiched together. The rustic black finish is referred to as kurouchi and simply means blacksmith finish. His years of blacksmithing experience really come through in his excellent treatment of AS steel, it is super easy to sharpen these knives and they get wicked sharp.
We have chosen to fix an octagonal teak handle with buffalo horn collar to these knives. Teak is a hardwood that not only looks pretty, it is great a repelling water and holding up to wear over time.
