These white (coarse) ceramic rods are what we use for daily edge maintenance on softer steel knives. They also work quite well for cleaning up burr when doing the initial sharpening on lower grit stones. Please use the coarse ceramic rod in the same way you would use the fine ceramic rod. The hardness of these white ceramic rods is 9 Mohs which is in the 3000-4000 range.
