Shigeki Tanaka Nashiji
Fourth generation blacksmith, Shigeki Tanaka, is a highly skilled craftsman working out of his shop located in Miki city. Tanaka san got his training at Takefu knife village in Echizen, Japan. At TKV he quickly absorbed many skills that are on full display with his world renowned knives. All of his knives are hand-forged out of his quaint workshop.
.
For this line of knives he uses GIN3. Also known as Ginsan steel, GIN3 is a Hitachi steel that was designed for making cutting tools, like knives and scissors. Ginsan steel has a carbon content of 0.95%-1.1% and Chromium content between 13%-14%. This translates to a knife that takes an awesome edge that doesn't rust very easily like carbon steel knives. A slight addition of Manganese and Silicon improves grain structure, wear resistance, and hardness.
.
All knives in this line are fitted with an octagonal wa-handle, good for both righty's and left's.
.
