Nigara Hamono Tsuchime SG2
Now on their 8th generation of blade makers, the Nigara family have been forging knives and swords for over 350 years. Their knife making style and Damascus patterns are absolutely beautiful, landing their knives in the "functional art" category.
Located in Hirosaki, Japan, Nigara Hamono forges not only kitchen cutlery, but also hunting, outdoor, and woodworking tools as well. Their Anmon Damascus series is named after the Anmon waterfall in Hirosaki. The cascading waterfalls and rippling waters inspires their craftsman.
For the Tsuchime Migaki and Kurouchi series they've chosen to use SG2 powder steel for the core of the knife. SG2 is super hard, can get mega sharp, and it holds an edge like carbon steel, but it's stainless, bonus! This extremely fine grained steel is one of our favourite steels at the shop for it’s ease of sharpening and low maintenance characteristics.
All knives in this series are fixed with an Octagonal Wenge handle. We prefer this shape for a handle for it’s simplicity and also it’s comfort. Wenge is a hard-wood that will stand up to years of abuse, and looks fantastic as well.
