Hatsukoro Hyomon
Hatsukokoro Hyomon series is a new offering made in collaboration with Fukushima blacksmith Takahiro Nihei. These luxurious high end blades are not only beautiful to look at, they also feature incredible distal taper resulting in buttery cuts. The word Hyomon roughly translates to “ice crest”. This name was given to his blades after the polishing work revealed his unique damascus patterns resembling a frozen lake.
Takahiro Nihei is another talented young blacksmith who studied in Sanjo at the renowned Yoshikane Hamono. All all of his work on these blades is done in house from laminating the steel to sharpening the knives, he attention to detail is in full display. Takahiro san is also known for his amazing work with the popular knife brand Konosuke.
For the Hyomon knives he utilizes Shirogami #2 for the cutting edge which has been hand forged with an extremely beautiful damascus cladding. Shirogami steel is a near pure steel that requires a deft hand to forge, but results in a knife that is ultra easy to sharpen and gets insanely sharp.
We have chosen to fit each of these knives with high end wa-handles either made with snakewood or Karin wood. Please refer to the product specs
